Spring Open 4 Ball Better Ball Results

The Spring Open 4 Ball Better Ball took place on Saturday 28th May 2016 with a record entry of 72 pairs taking part.

The Men were playing for the John N. Jones Memorial Trophy. This trophy was donated to the club in 2012 in memory of Past Secretary, John Newell Jones.

Welsh Ladies Team Championship

Congratulations to the ladies team of Sherrie Edwards, Chris Hughes, Anne Lloyd, Sheila Saer and Hayley Price on qualifying for the Welsh Ladies Team Championship last 32 to be played at Wenvoe Castle Golf Club on June 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th.

The team played Cardigan Golf Club ladies at Ashburnham Golf Club on Sunday 15th May winning by 3 matches to 2.

Well done and good luck in the finals.

SENIOR (MEN'S) TEAM EVENT RESULTS

The inaugural Senior (Men's) Team Event was held today Wednesday 27th April in weather resembling winter. However a field of 25 teams took part with 17 different clubs represented. Thank you to all those that braved the elements.

The format was 2 players to count on holes 1-6, 3 players on holes 7-12, all 4 players on holes 13-18, stableford, 90% handicap allowance.

Ladies Mail On Sunday Team

Congratulations to the ladies team playing in the 2016 Mail On Sunday Team knockout competition on reaching the 4th round.

Round 2 saw the ladies play a very strong side from Derllys Court Golf Club at Builth. The team of Lisa Hughes, Chris Hughes, Anne Lloyd, Kara Parker and Jayne Wynn winning in sudden death after the match finished 2.5 - 2.5. Chris Hughes winning on the 19th hole.

Round 3 saw the ladies draw Brecon Golf Club at Brecon. A strong team performance resulted in a win by 4 matches to 1. The winning team was Hayley Price, Lisa Hughes, Chris Hughes, Jayne Wynn and Anne Lloyd.

The 4th round draw has seen Builth handed a home tie with Burghill Valley Golf Club. Unfortunately the ladies bowed out with a 3 matches to 2 defeat. Several of the matches went to the 18th hole, however the 2016 Mail On Sunday Team have been knocked out!

A message from the Club President

Congratulations!

Congratulations to both Simon Edwards and the Golf Club on receiving prestigious awards at Brecon & Radnor Annual Sports Personality Awards held at Theatr Brycheiniog on Saturday March 5th.

In excess of 50 nominations were received across 13 categories and the Golf Club featured in a short list of 3 in two categories.

In the Club of the Year category, the Golf Club was awarded 2nd place for its pioneering work with junior golfers, links with the community and hosting the 2015 Welsh Ladies Team Championship and the Powys Wee Wonders Final.

In the Contribution to PE and School Sport category, Simon was awarded 3rd place for his work with local primary schools in promoting golf and other sports, helping with the organisation of the Powys Wee Wonders Golf Final and co-ordinating the Powys Schools Golf Fun Day at the club in which 167 juniors took part.

This is a tremendous achievement for our Club and heartiest congratulations to everyone involved in the continuing success of Builth Wells Golf Club.

Brecknock & Radnor Sports Awards 2015

Builth Wells Golf Club were runners up in the Club of The Year in the 2015 Brecknock & Radnor Sports Awards announced on Saturday evening, 5th March. Furthermore Club Professional, Simon Edwards was presented with 3rd place in the Contribution to PE & Sport in Schools due to his work in delivering golf & football in local primary schools.

Junior Leaders, Sherrie Edwards and Chris Probert received nominations in the Volunteer of the Year category, but unfortunately just missed out on being shortlisted.

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday 5th March at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon.
